Optus Sport

I joined the Optus Sport product at its inception in 2016, back when it was known simply as “Optus – Premier League.” Over the years, I helped shape its evolution through multiple redesigns and feature updates, continuing through to March 2024. In that time, the app rating climbed from 1.8 in 2018 to 4.6, and it was featured several times as App of the Day on the Apple App Store.

Working closely with the talented design team at Deltatre Sydney, I led the delivery of end-to-end product design, acting as digital art director and the primary design representative for Optus. I managed a small in-house product design team of three, responsible for maintaining and evolving two key products—Optus Sport being the flagship.

During my tenure, Optus Sport grew to over 1.2 million subscribers, solidifying its role as Australia’s leading platform for premium football content.

Legacy

In June 2025, Nine Entertainment acquired Optus Sport's broadcasting rights for $300 million, with the service transitioning to Stan by August 2025. This significant acquisition demonstrates the substantial value and market position that Optus Sport achieved during my eight-year tenure as lead product designer—transforming from a struggling 1.8-rated app into a premium streaming platform valued at hundreds of millions of dollars.
